Often Medical, a research spin-off of the University of Sannio, is an innovative startup operating in the MedTech sector. It was founded in 2018 by a research team from the optoelectronic and photonic division of the Department of Engineering of the University of Sannio and a group of doctors from the Department of Medical Surgical Sciences and Medicine Translation of the University of Rome Sapienza, in collaboration with Day One, incubator of high tech start-ups from European research centers. Researchers at Sannio University have decades of experience in developing advanced fiber optic sensors for industrial applications; the anesthetic doctors are experts in algology and invasive and mini-invasive techniques in pain therapy.
This mix of experience and diverse skills led the multidisciplinary team to work on an ambitious research project aimed at solving the problems associated with epidural anesthesia. The project, begun in the first months of 2015, has led to a fully functional prototype currently being engineered.
